Small authors are stalking you.
The thing about being a nobody writer is that in slow times, the KIndle unlimited reports occasionally imply the reading path of a single reader. It's a bit creepy in a way, but fascinating. If I am to draw the simplest conclusions based on how many pages have been read of which book, it would appear that someone in the states had a slow start to my first book,, Lifehack, but picked up speed, dong the bulk of it yesterday and the day before, them moving right on to my 2nd book, Watching Yute.
Yute has A very different tone, but it has not slowed them down. (Again, I'm drawing conclusions COULD be 1000 readers each reading one page, then moving on, or 250 people reading 4 pages, etc, etc, but I think my initial conclusions are pretty likely.)
I worry that Yute's vastly different (and depressing!) low-action tone would turn off people who just finished blowing up 2 cities worth of zombies, but, my new reader seems to be into it.
There is an urge to lean over their shoulder and see where they are exactly, and gush. "Ooh, see that part? She was implying... oh, you got that? Good. Ooh, this next part is good, READ IT REALLY HARD! I'll hold your hand if you need support."
A small writer very much appreciates support, (and good lord, a review?? That can make a month!) but the little ones are watching from the corner when you wander into their shop. They dearly hope you enjoy whatever little candy you pick up, and would treasure feedback if it was a little too sweet? Oh, you would have liked a stronger hint of raspberry? The gooey centre could have been bigger? Would that have been too overt? I don't want to diminish it by putting in too much, but Ohh yes, the middle can be... SO GOOD. Did you rush in for it? Did you savour the outer layers? They were there for your pleasure, to complete the experience.

Interview! Raffle! VCON! WHOOOOOOO!
Ahh! My poor neglected blog... y'all would hear a lot more out of me if you followed my FB page.
But news! Fresh interview here along with a rafflecopter giveaway thingie for my 3 ebooks!
And VCON'S COMING! I have no table this year, instead I'll be speaking at like 8 events. One of which is:
Oct 4th at VCON, 4 PM. Today I bought a big can of redbull as a door prize. Me, Sandra Wicklow and Kristi Charish will be yapping about energy drinks, the good the bad, the ugly.
At 1PM, I'll be in a discussion group called "Romance or Porn" in relation to novels, and probably media in general. I hope to read a snippit from Watching Yute that demonstrates where my personal line is.
At two I'll be in a group discussing 'canon' ideas vs fan-made stuff,
I'll also be moderating at a panel at 3 about copyrights and piracy, "Copyright of Copyleft"
The following day I'm going to be doing a reading slot, where.. I haven't decided what I'll be reading yet! Maybe from one of my books, maybe from a short story that's going into the unpublished (so far) compilation called "13 Bites".
I'm also talking at a bunch of stuff on Sunday, too! "The Future of Money" and "Weed Wackers"
Tons of fun that I wouldn't have been able to do if I had been stuck at a vendor table!
Oh, next post, I should talk about 13 bites... or ya'll can just go to my FB, posted above!

3rd editions launched!
Kindle, Paperbacks, and Hardcovers of all three books, Lifehack, Watching Yute, and Echoes of Erebus. They're all out now.
The paperback prices have been cut to 14.95... why? Just cuz 15.95 was stupid.
What's new in the 3rd edition? More spells for clerics, and.. no.. wait... A few typos removed, descriptions for Yute and Lifehack re-written, and a little mention of "Rubberman's Cage" coming soon in the back.. which means I'm officially committed to finishing that sucker!
And each book now has at least 20 pages of XXX lesbian erotica.
Did I fool ya? Nawwwww, there isn't. There's no real reason for people who already have em to re-buy em or anything, I'm just glad to have em out there! (ebook people might be allowed to get fresh versions free.. I'm not sure how that works...)
Oh, and at the ed of June, I'll be free of my KDP Select contract, and will be allowed to spread back onto createspace and other outlets.
Now... I was talking about serializing the books into little ebooks... I'm not super keen on that at this point, tho the notion of a huge uber-tome containing all three books is still kinda attractive...
Oh, and somehow I now have a kinda-fanclub that some ladies started on FB called "The Dicktree Girls". Like.. they're making themselves tshirts... they're kind of centralized on a graphic I released that's going to be part of the back cover for Rubberman's Cage...
it... it's kinda hard to explain... I don't quite, quite get it myself.

Website renovation, and book supplier hassles.
Site's prettier now, and laid out smarter. I included 3 sources people might be wise to buy my trade paperback* books from, but...
After spreading the love around for "The Book Depository" due to global free shipping, (DESPITE taking their bleedin' time to put up images to my books, and DESPITE a really crappy royalty rate), my books are mysteriously "Out of stock" there now. How is it said over there? Bollocks? Quite.
Ohhh, with any luck, it is a momentary hiccup. If not, I'll just have to remove them as sources on my page, hm? More money for Amazon then, and better royalties for me. At least Amazon will give free shipping to a US buyer who gets more than one of my books at once.. It's better than nothing.
One-book buyers and non-US buyers may as well skip amazon and go though Createspace, where I get the BEST royalties. Erf. It's always a pain to pay shipping though, isn't it?
Well, for the truly frugal, there's always e-book versions of all my stuff. Assuming you're okay with reading off of a screen.
*2 good sources of e-books are on the page as well, and one source for hardcovers... BUT, I'm investigating an option that could get my retail price for hardcovers closer to $20.. which would be quite nice.
hmm... I see my books are finally carried on Amazon.ca... Amazon finally got that sorted out... .UK, too... this will take a bit more fiddling to get optimal....

Joss Wheadon needs to give me $1,000,000.oo
I know he's not looking for submissions, but I think he'll throw a million bucks at me for the chance to turn my novels into movies. I could possibly endure seeing his skills applied to my stories. The money will help me endure. He should get on EBAY ASAP, since it's only a week long auction:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180471368349&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:CA:1123
There's also info there where people can get the ebooks free for the next month or so, but that's secondary.
They have a lot of stuff Joss likes. Strong female leads, sci fi, drama, action, humour, strong female romantic interests for the strong female leads, cookies. Joss likes cookies, doesn't he? If only I could get this info into his hands. Alternatively, Ms. Dushku should know that I have her underwear. I don't, but it might get her over here.

Operation eBook drop
So I recently put my ebooks up on a site called "Smashwords". I think I mentioned it before, along with the huge half-book long samples I have there.
Anyway, somehow or another, I hear about OeBD. Authors (Creeping up to 300 of us now) agree to donate free access to our e-books to troops overseas. Apparently, ebooks, with the mobility and convenience they offer, are popular with the troops, but access to them is a little on the tricky side.
The thing it, OeBD mainly supports US and UK troops... which hey, we're all on the same side, (Give or take the controversy over us being there at all- but this is about the individuals out there, not the policies that got them there), and as a Canadian, I want to help connect OeBD's organizer with a solder or more, who can offer the program to Canadian troops.
Anyone got a contact over there, who might wanna help out a bit?

Happy Halloween! Who wants literary candy?
I've just set up on Smashwords as a new distro for my e-books. (My cut's a little lower, but they have a huge distro range, and a pile of formats)
And they encourage a 50% sample! Yeah, that means any of you can go to https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/ozero , my smashwords page, and go down and read the first half of Lifehack or Watching Yute for free!
All you kiddies out there who said "I wanna get one, but..." You have no money, you can't do X,Y,or Z, or all your stolen creditcards have been reported by their owners... You can go read the first half of the books at least!
By then, I'll have you hooked on my sweet sweet candy. Then you will send me all your empty pop cans to get the book, and I WILL BE RICH! RICH IN MY CASTLE OF ALUMINUM! And I shall look across the lands from my sugar-sticky throne, breathing the air of caffeine, and I shall say, "Geez, I should get more writing done for Echoes of Erebus."
I know, I promised a pic of my coste for my next post, but my next post wasn't supposed ot be so soon. I just wanted to let y'all know about the free samples I have out now...!

YUTE HARDCOVER AND E-BOOK NOW OUT!!!!
I had PLANNED to tell y'all that I was working on the HARDCOVER version of Watching Yute, but lo, the winds of fate blew favorably! It's up right now! 10 min ago!
CHECK IT OUT
That link goes to my storefront of 'my old publisher'. but they do 2 things that the new guys don't- hardcover and e-book. EVEN BETTER NEWS: The price of the hardcover is way better than what I was able to sell at before! (as evidenced on that page by the horrid price on the Lifehack Hardcover, which I plan to rectify soon...)
The shipping still stinks for canadians, so I'll be contacting my local folks with an offer to get in on a bulk order, where I'll suck up the shipping cost.
This makes the coming of the softcover version seem a little anti-climactic, but... hey, good news is good news. The hardcover of Lifehack is pretty a heck, and I expect the Yute Hardcover to be all the more glam.
Hey folks, got your copy of lifehack handy? (not the first edition), see the nanite-thing on the bottom of the cover, on the spine? Notice how he's more on the front than the edge? Well, Yute has him centred on the spine, and he lined up happily to Lifehack when sitting on the shelf together. One more book to complete him..... COULD I BE WRITING THE NEXT ALREADY?? Sarah and her fishy anatomy say yes.
SO! Long distance friends, leap on the hardcover or e-book now of ya want, or hold out for the softcover launch. LOCALS: If you wanna upgrade your softcover pre-orders to a hardcover, let me know! I'll be attempting to contact all you local pre-orderers to make sure you're aware.
